Tarmac’s Aberthaw Cement Plant supports Rhoose in Bloom

June 21, 2022

Tarmac’s Aberthaw Cement Plant has supported Rhoose in Bloom with a donation of 250 litres of compost, and a selection of bedding plants.

After successfully raising funds and receiving permission from the council to put the hanging baskets on the shop fronts on Fontygary Road, local community group, Rhoose Community Spirit, asked Tarmac for a donation.

The compost and bedding plants were delivered to Rhws Primary School, for the children to plant the baskets.

Samantha Campbell, from Rhoose Community Spirit, said: “It’s been so fantastic to spread some lovely colour around our village. I’m so grateful to Tarmac for supplying the compost and flowers that we needed to make this project work. I know I can always rely on Tarmac’s support for our projects which is amazing!”

Tara Williams, from Rhws Primary School, said: “The children at our wraparound care really enjoyed planting up the baskets and love seeing their work on display in the village. We hope it will also provide much needed food for pollinators.”

Stuart Escott, Tarmac’s Aberthaw plant manager, said: “We were pleased to be able to help Rhoose Community Spirit with this project. It is great to see the children getting involved with the planting, which will then be displayed for the whole community to enjoy.”

Rhoose Community Spirit is a voluntary group working to bring local people together through community events that foster a sense of pride in the village.

Residents can help through donations to the fund-raising appeal or by volunteering to help at community events.
