Tarmac supports Woody’s Lodge to flourish in the Vale of Glamorgan

March 26, 2019

A charity which provides an inviting space for veterans of the Armed Forces, Emergency Services and Reservists across the Vale of Glamorgan has received a helping hand from Tarmac’s Aberthaw plant.

Woody’s Lodge, which has a base at the Amelia Trust Farm, took an important delivery of postcrete from Tarmac, which has allowed a fence to be erected around the bunkhouse outside area that Woody’s Lodge occupy during the week. The fencing now means that veterans, many of whom suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), have valuable privacy as they receive support at the Vale base.

Woody’s Lodge opened its doors at the Amelia Trust Farm in August last year after moving from HMS Cambria. It has since been working with local veterans to provide them with therapeutic support in a care farm setting.

Tarmac has a history of supporting the farm which goes back to its establishment in the1980’s when it donated cement to make pathways around the site.

Kara Bennett, Tarmac Aberthaw’s environmental co-ordinator, added:

“We are proud to provide continued support to the Amelia Trust Farm and have a long-standing relationship which spans many years. Just last year we provided a further donation of postcrete and, when we were approached again, we were only too happy to help.

“The work of the Amelia Trust Farm and Woody’s is fantastic, and we hope this little help will go a long way to supporting the many people who visit and rely on the facility’s services.”

Sian Woodland, Communications Officer from Woody’s Lodge, spoke of the donation:

“On behalf of Woody’s I’d like to say thank you to Tarmac for its support. Our veterans now have a space where they can sit within a secure and safe area.

“Support from local businesses is invaluable and allows Woody’s Lodge to continue to provide much needed support to our Veterans, Emergency Services and their families throughout the local community.”

Tarmac provided the donation as part of its commitment to supporting the communities in which it works and those in which its colleagues live.

Woody’s Lodge is open to veterans and their families on Monday – Thursday from 10am – 3pm.

Aberthaw Cement Plant is the only cement works in south Wales. Cement made at Aberthaw has contributed to some of Wales’ most significant construction projects of recent time, including Pembroke Power Station, The Millennium Centre and home of the Welsh Government – The Senedd, both in Cardiff Bay.
