As National Apprenticeship Week (5-9 March) kicks off across the UK, we are reflecting on the importance of apprenticeships in helping us build a pipeline for the future, whilst ensuring that we develop and nurture talent to ensure that we remain the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions business.
As a business we have an ongoing commitment to build a talented, diverse and highly-skilled workforce to support our customers in creating the built environment around us.
We offer schemes ranging from HR, commercial and general management, through to mechanical and electrical apprenticeships. Here in Aberthaw, we currently have four apprentices who are working and studying hard to gain the qualifications required to help us meet future business demands.
Each of our apprenticeships lasts between one and four years, with all recruits undertaking a year of vocational training at a local leading higher education colleges – all whilst earning a wage. Recruits also receive expert technical on-site training in their chosen discipline.
Apprenticeships are key to our business and they underpin our business strategy. They play a key role in preparing the company for the future and making sure we continue to deliver outstanding levels of service.
And we’re proud to support the careers of young people as they embark on training for their own future.
We’re an equal opportunities employer and are particularly keen to highlight the huge opportunities there are for women in the sector and our pilot programme, Women in Cement, is making great progress. This business-wide initiative is focussed on engaging with females to educate them on the opportunities the sector holds and what better way to do that than to gain an apprenticeship?
This week we’ll be focussing on a different Aberthaw apprentice each day, who will be sharing their stories and tips for following a similar career path.
We hope you’re inspired and if you have any queries please do get in touch!
National Apprenticeship Week runs from 5 to 9 of March and will see employers and apprentices from across the UK come together to celebrate the success of apprenticeships and encourage even more people to choose apprenticeships as a pathway to a great career.
