Sully Girls Football team make the most of the Welsh weather with new kit

April 17, 2018

A Sully girls football team is celebrating after Tarmac’s Aberthaw Cement Plant has provided a donation which has allowed them to purchase all-weather training gear to ensure that they make the most of the great Welsh weather all-year round.

The Under 11’s team, which was established in 2015 and plays in the South Wales Girls League, has purchased the waterproof gear so that it can train in all elements. Tarmac has provided the donation to the club as part of its commitment to supporting the communities in which it works.

Kara Bennett, Tarmac Aberthaw’s Environmental Co-ordinator, explains the partnership:

“We are keen to support charities and causes located in close proximity to the cement plant and are delighted to have been able to fund much-needed equipment so that the girls can train in all weather.

“We are hoping that the relationship will also allow us to engage with the club to open young girls minds to the opportunities that exist within the engineering sector. We are running a pilot programme – Women in Cement – which gives young women the opportunity to understand what it’s like to work within the industry and support them with the skills needed to forge a successful career.

“We hope that the kit donation is just the start of a fruitful relationship and we wish the girls the best of luck for the remainder of the season.”

Mark Isherwood coaches Sully Girls Under 11’s and said:

“We are delighted to have established these links with Tarmac and it’s great that they have been able to have provided much needed support. We are reliant on such donations to keep the club running and we are excited about the possibilities this relationship holds.”

Aberthaw Cement Plant is the only cement works in south Wales. Cement made at Aberthaw has contributed to some of Wales’ most significant construction projects of recent time, including Pembroke Power Station, The Millennium Centre and home of the Welsh Government – The Senedd, both in Cardiff Bay.
