Kits for Kids – Island Marine FC U6 kitted out

December 19, 2019

Barry’s Island Marine FC Under 6 team has received a sponsorship boost from Tarmac.

The company’s local Aberthaw cement plant has donated £500 as a result of one of its colleagues volunteering efforts, which has now allowed the club to purchase a new kit for the team.

Tarmac Aberthaw’s Kiln Coach, Dan Lane, volunteers as a coach for the young side, where he gives approximately 300 hours of his time, per year, to train the 18 budding footballers and manage the team during games.

Now sporting a new kit featuring the Tarmac logo, the under 6’s are now facing their opposition in style.

Dan Lane said:
“We have over 18 children playing for the under 6 side who come from across the Barry area. We’ve been running the junior teams for many years now and as you can imagine, many of the kits are passed down between the different age groups, meaning we have a mismatch of kits.

“I do give up my time to volunteer at the club but it’s something that I enjoy immensely. To have further backing from my employer is great and I know first-hand how much this donation means to the team.

“Securing this donation has been wonderful and our players are thoroughly grateful. They’re all looking forward to playing a game they love, in matching kit.”

Graeme Bride, Manager at Aberthaw, said:
“We are committed to supporting the volunteering efforts of our colleagues and are delighted to support Dan and Island Marine under 6’s in their season.

“We wish them the best of luck in the future and look forward to following their success.”

Aberthaw Cement Plant is the only cement works in south Wales. Cement made at Aberthaw has contributed to some of Wales’ most significant construction projects of recent time, including Pembroke Power Station, The Millennium Centre and home of the Welsh Government – The Senedd, both in Cardiff Bay.
